Hi,
I have a 90 Civic LX with the D15 engine and I read about someone swappign a SOHC VTEC head onto their engine.
Its supposed to give between 115-120hp which is pretty good instead of the costly engine swap.
How hard is it to put a new head onto the engine block?
What else will I need for this swap?
Is it the cylinder head?
I went to car-parts.com and they have the option for Head(cylinder) is this the one?
Thanks,
Owen

the SOHC VTEC head swap, commonly called "mini-me" is a very easy swap. Keep in mind, however, that you will also have to convert to MPFI, because your DX injection system (DPI) is very weak and not performance oriented.
As far as the head swap is concerned, however, unbolt your head off the block, remove a small oil squirter (bronze colored thing in the middle of the block, its a small circle with a hole in it, just pulls right out), bolt on the VTEC head and thats it. You'll have to find a way to activate VTEC, rpm activated switches, VTEC controllers, or OBD1 conversion are some of your options.
as for the MPFI conversion, you will need a 4thgen Si Intake manifold, throttle body, fuel injectors, fuel rail, and all sensors, basically a complete intake manifold assembly. A 5th gen manifold can be substituted, but some vacuum line and wiring changes must be made. if you are confident with your soldering skills and wiring skills, here is a small diagram.
enjoy VTEC.

lol
it doesnt matter where you put the oil in, it all drains down into the oil pan anwyays.

yes it will bolt right on, butmake sure you remove the oiljet. you will see what im talking about when you take your head off. in the middle of the block, i belive on the back side, theres a little bronze colored circle witha hole in the middle of it.. it comes right out, make sure you remove it. Use a d16z6 head gasket, and it is recommend that you get a 92-95 VX timing belt, but i belive that i used the stock 1.5L timing belt, but im not 100% sure.
