dammit the B12 Sentra is fuckin messed.....i had 2 drive it 2 a function hall cuz i was goin to some sort of senior empowerment thing at the other end of town...as i'm drivin there...the car loses power and becomes really heavy feeling....i pull over and then the oil light comes on..."great no fuckin oil" i say to my self...i pop the bonnet to look under and i try 2 start the car...plenty of power there..the tired sohc 1.6 litre inline 4 whines and grunts but doesn't start...a good samaritan pulls over and tries 2 help me but we don't get it started..i had 2 leave it on the side of the road with hazards on while the guy gave me a ride to where i was supposed to go....here i am thinkin that the engine seized and since it's a tired B12, i'm not sure if the would replace the engine....my dad had the car towed and it turns out that the timing belt is fucked up meaning that the engine needs 2 me retimed...fuckin shit

Does it have a non-interference motor? If so you got lucky. This what happened to my car when my timing belt went....as a result of the water pump seizing:

Needs timing? Hell, I've set the ignition timing on my 360 without a timing light - and you don't really need one for valve timing jobs really (I don't think, I've never had the timing belt snap, just replaced 'em for routine maintenance) How long had it been since it's last timing belt?

I incorrectly put the timing belt cover back on the MArea and as a result it's eaten away most of the built- result is I need to change it again  I know how it feels when a timing built snaps though- I perfer Fanbelt snaps at leat you can limp the car to safety :D

Actually, if all that happened was the belt snapped...consider yourself VERY VERY lucky. E16 powered B12's are an interference motor, and most of the time, you will end up bending some valves, damaging the head, pistons, (the list goes on).
My B12 is just over 155,000kms on its original timing belt, so I am in desperate need of a new one. Hopefully it will be taken care of next week, and hopefully before mine breaks :)

You are correct, boingo! :)
The GA and SR series engines have a timing chain, while the E - series, and CA engines use a belt.
Nissan made it confusing, since in the end of US production, you could get the GA16i, and in earlier years, you could only get the E16 (i/s). They both are 1.6L displacement, but are VERY different. Shopping for replacement parts can be tricky....especially here in Canada, where they continued to sell the B12 until the end of 92. Meaning the B12 and B13 models overlapped. In Canada, if you go to a store with an american parts listing....its impossible to find parts for a 92 B12.
On the subject of timing belts, I bought one for my car yesterday and had to ask for a belt for a 1988 Sentra, cause NAPA had an American parts listing. I had to fight with the clerk for 15min, because at first I told him I had a 92, and he kept trying to sell me a timing chain
Anyways......
HogieGT-R, have you started yours yet? I managed to change my belt in just under 4hrs. My belt wasnt broken, so I was able to use the "half-cut" method. Let us know how yours goes :)

HogieGT-R,
Damn that is unlucky, Im not sure what car you are talking about as I across the pond but about two months ago myself and my Fiance moved into our new home. We were driving back to her folks in my car a 98 Opel Astra, I was doing 70mph down the motorway when my car lurched and lost power, engine light came on and I knew it was bad. Mechanic came out tried to turn the engine over and there was a pop. He gave me the bad news the Belt snapped. I knew it was coming close to its time to be done less then 55K on the clock. Anway long story short 14 out of the 16 valves needed replacing. Cost me €1400 to be repaired plus €60 to get it towed. The mechanic tried to be funny with me when I went to collect the car from him asking me if I wanted any souveniers. Funny bastard but top class mechanic. Anyway point to all this is I feel your pain man mine couldnt have some at the worst time too. I'll certainly be looking after my timing belt in future.

Hey there dublinguy- an interesting story you have there- Timing belt snaps are the worst things that can happen on the road- royally roots the engine- as you experienced. As I've said- fanbelt snaps are far better :bigthumb:
Sorry to hear about the B12 Hogie- what becomes of it now? Scrap???? Or are you going to break it up and sell what actually works?

Thanks Jimster, I still get sick at how much I paid out to get it repaired but had to get it back on the road I couldnt keep driving my Fiances Nissan Micra anymore, Im 6ft 2 and every time I got out of the car I felt like Ihad siezed up. Hope to get rid of the Astra soon, god only knows what untold damage has been done. The timing is most definately off on the car now. Thinking of Going for the Nissan Almera h/b as the next car. I need something sturdy and reliable. Although the Alfa 147 is very appealing I drool everytime I see it or any Alfa for that matter.
Hogie, what will you do now?

I think that it's gettin junked unfortunately, i can't turn it into some sort of project car, i wanted to sell the 4 tires because they're fairly new, but i guess that we'll make some junkyard really happy :disappoin :crying:

Thanks for that HogieGT-R, kinda difficult to get into chats on this forum when so many of the cars are US models. It does look familiar though I think it looks similiar to one of the very old Primeras that can be bought over here.
Steel, Island?????? I beg your pardon we aint that small, I bet you think there are little leprechauns running around aswell....:iceslolan ...only pulling ur leg....I might be one of the coolest guys on 'The Island' but I would also be the poorest can you imagine what the insurance on that would be over here thats if a company would even insure me....LOL... It costs me nearly €2k to insure my 1.4 Opel (GM) Astra for the year....

2000 euro for a little opel?!?! wow, and i thought $2000 was bad for a red sportscar with a 19 y/o male driver with a traffic record.
Dublinguy

Yep its pretty bad over here for male drivers, Im 25 with a full license for over 2 years and 5 years no claims bonus next month when my insurance is up and only one speeding fine in 5 years driving, but that was 68mph in a 50mph zone. Insurance companies over here bend male drivers over and take them for a ride of there own. There is supposed to be some reform coming in but I dont believe it.
One company has brought in a scheme whereby they attach a device to the car that will allow them to monitor the speed you are doing in different speed zones. But it is unclear as to how many times you can break the limit before being trown out of the scheme. I wont join it on principle. Although my insurance should almost half next month when I renew it because of my age and no claims bonus.
