2002 Ranger A/C

The A/C quit last Summer, I managed, however after resurrecting the A/C in my Plymouyth Voyager, I put the Lp (Low pressure)gauge on the Ranger. The system oscillates from low to max (55psi), I hear a click (A/C clutch), the pressure drops and then climbs again. Any clue?
