Just wanted to share a recent experience...

The problem started off w/ some intermittent false ABS activation and then the ABS light started to flash ~8 times, then at about the same time, the 4X4 started to flash continuously.
Removed the front wheels and found one of the ABS tone rings cracked and partially moved from its normal mounted position.
After replacing the tone ring (~$7 from dealer), the ABS light went out once the vehicle reached about 20MPH.
The 4X4 light kept flashing though even after a 10 minute drive. Later discovered that in order to reset the 4X4 system/light the vehicle must sit in park and idle for 5 minutes. After leaving the engine to idle in park for 5 minutes, the 4x4 light stopped flashing.
So after a $7 part and approx two hours of labor all of the symptoms have been resolved!

Thanks for sharing. I have an ABS sensor that causes the light to come on from over night high-humidity. Mornings with low-humidity, no light. After the brakes have been used to heat it up, and presumably dry it out, and it has restarted, no more light. I'll live with it until the next time something else needs to be done. But before winter since it does shut off the ABS and the auto 4x4 engagement.

Update: That was the RF that failed. Now it's 1-1/2 years later and the LF failed too. This time, I followed the instructions that someone posted on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Tg3kipoLoI
I found this method easier than removing the lower ball joint pinch bolt, rotor and caliper. I borrowed a 32mm socket from autozone for the hub nut. The Front
lower arm bolt torque spec is 85 lb-ft.
