Damn its cold!!!!

I'm sitting here posting on the forums, reviewing some photos and videos from a car show I went to the other day, and it's bloody cold!

16deg C inside. I've got 3 layers on and I'm still cold.

Not really, it's to hot for work in a forge...i've came close to heat exhaustion twice now, my only saving grace is that i know how to stay hydrated.

Lately? We've been doing a lot of the 500 pound ring gears for caterpillar and reliant energy systems. Also we do a lot of valves for FMC which is a natural gas company. I work on a 25,000 pound steam powered drop hammer.

This past winter a record was set in Oklahoma, -32 C.

This Wednesday we are expecting 46 C.

OMG! that's the exact hammer i work on, and i mean thats my crew, my hammer man and all...i work there...hahaha


I'm actually the one on the hoist (that's actually me), the guys that come in with that fork to take the piece down to that press. The thing that sets the piece there is called the manipulator, he pulls the steel out of the furnace and sets on the hammer and sometimes like this one he pulls it out of the hammer to set on our forks for us...


That piece thats being made there is called a stopper, it's a cut off valve for natural gas companies, i believe that piece is about 400 pounds.

Similar conditions here. Last winter we got 180" ( 15 feet ) of snow , 12" off the record, and last week it was just over 100 degrees with the heat index close to 120 degrees.

It gets down to about -1deg C here when it's really cold, and peaks at about 32deg C in the summer. :icon16::icon16:

Yep, second shift, 3pm-11pm...it's hard work but i make $30 an hour and i can retire with full benefits in 30 years, partial retirement in 5 years.
