Modifying original dx motor

I have an 89 dx hatch which i believe is a 1.5L D15 or whatever. Anyways, is it worth doing this motor up? I have heard of people that have done old motors like mine and are pretty quick on the street. But there are also those people telling me that it's not worth it because it would cost too much. I don't really have the money for a decent swap right now (decent to me would be a GSR motor) so I was wondering if you guys can give me ideas on what else I can do.

I personally don't think its worth it.. I gave my DX motor away when I swapped it out.. They're pretty much usless.

You could spend $1500+ on bolt ons (intake, header, exhaust) and have a DX motor thats almost as fast as a stock Si motor, OR you could at least throw in a DOHC ZC and be considerably faster.

I don't understand why doing up your DX motor might be alright, but the only swap that would be "decent" to you is a GSR.

for ease of higher horsepower, you cant beat a DOHC VTEC swap, really.

If you have the time/money, you can fix up the d15 with various methods, if you have ever heard of Bisi Ezeroiah (sp?), he had a d15b7 as quoted to over 300hp NA, but that of course is with him sponsored by a machine shop that built custom cams, cranks, pistons, rods, etc. etc. etc.

If you are just looking for a little extra oomph, then i might suggest a "mini-me" setup, which is putting a d16z6 or d16y8 SOHC VTEC head on your block, which can ususally be found for around 100-200 dollars, this should bump you up to about 115-125hp, which is still no where around a stock b16's 160hp.

You could also turbocharge, but with the DPI DX fuel injection system, you will probably blow the engine in a day becaues of a lack of fuel, however swap a d16a6 (88-91 1.6L SI engine) head on the block with MPFI fuel injection, or do the mini-me setup, and you could possibly boost 5-8psi depending on your fuel management, but still, you figure about 102hp stock, boosting 6psi, that might get you up to the 145-150hp range with good tuning. which means your engine would be almost to the point of exploding, and still ALMOST have the same stock horsepower as a b16.

If you want some real power, and want to whoop on some DOHC VTEC engines, your best bet is to have a DOHC VTEC engine :)

d series engines can be quick, however, but with similar mods, a B will always leave it in the dust.

where can I get a b16a1 (or whatever the old ones are that came in the dohc del sols) and whats the cheapest they'll go for? And another thing...I'll have to do suspension first which is a bitch cuz I don't have $1000 to spend on a decent suspension just yet (canadian $). And for brakes...what kind should I get? Can I pull any from an SiR or something?

Del Sols have a B16A3, wich is OBD2 and has a hydro tranny. You don't want that.
