hi i have a 97 cav 2.2 now i had issues with the engine with the cat overheating and i tried things and then it didnt start now i didnt notice if theft system light on or not but i did keep cranking engine over a lot and nothing, now the service light on doesnt run i ordered a the Pro Bypass from new rockers website a few weeks ago and got it 2 days ago, i did the trouble shooting and still nothing, i done the key on start then leave on on for 10 min trick that doesnt work cuz the theft light never turns off, now i found there is a recall on this cars ignition, too but from new rockers said it could be the computer not getting power or a bad cluster and they said hook it up to the computer and find out but what would i be looking for? it used to be able to do the 3 key turns and i could see the error codes on the dash but the engine service light doesnt blink anymore

now the recall says what i posting below but wanna know if there is something i can test or what not as this is stupid frigin cars with thse damn pass lock shit if i wanted a security system in a car i pay to have one put in for a car i want it to start there too many electronic sensors as is now a days ugh

well here is the post

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE ENGINE FAILS TO START AND THE DRIVER HOLDS THE KEY IN THE "START" POSITION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, HIGH CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND SOMETIMES PRODUCES ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT INTERNAL SWITCH PARTS.

Consequence:
IF THE SWITCH IS DAMAGED, A FIRE COULD OCCUR IN THE STEERING COLUMN, EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A RELAY KIT IN THESE VEHICLES TO PREVENT HIGH CURRENT FROM FLOWING THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 27, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020, PONTIAC AT 1-800-762-2737, BUICK AT 1-800-521-7300, OR OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-442-6537.
