Power steering or rack and pinion?

I'm not an auto expert. A friend of mine was involved in a minor accident in which she went into a ditch. Afterwards it was like she had no power steering. She's asked a couple of people about it. One person said it might be rack and pinion, and another said it might be her power steering. I'm going over to her house later on. I'm going to check and see if the power steering reservoir has fluid as well as the serpentine belt is slipping. Can anyone chime in please?
