im thinking about buying a drift body kit for my 1997 cavilier. Does anyone know if you can install these kits on your own. If not how much does it cost to have installed and painted....also can you paint them on your own?

You can definitely install it yourself if you want. It takes time and patience though... it takes a while to get all the lines matching and all the gaps even. If it's your first time it could take as much as a full weekend to get everything lined up right. You probably want to get it painted before you install it. It shouldn't cost more than about $350 for a solid color paint job with clear coat and everything.

You could do it yourself with a very high quality spray paint... but you would need a paint booth or something to keep dust/plants/ etc off of it while it dries. I know some one will come on here and talk trash saying you can't spray paint a car and have it look good, but trust me, I've seen it done and you couldn't tell the difference. You just have to lay a good coat of primer down, use a good high quality paint(ask a body shop), and take your time!!! You don't want any runs..
With that said however... I would be too afraid to try it myself.. even though I know it can come out looking good.

You can paint it on your own. They make a CO2 can w/ aglass top that acts almost like a sprayer so you can use real car paint i'll try to find a link. as for a spray booth tack large movers plastic to your garage ceiling and take a few house fans pointing outwards to ventalate.
