Everyone remembers their first

Their first car, that is.

Whether it was the first trip to McDonald's (or the BK lounge, depending on your allegiance), your first speeding ticket or your first romantic encounter in a vehicle, everyone remembers the best times they had in their first car.

So what was yours?

Mine was a 1989 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Royale Coupe. I still have at my parents' house and am planning on working to breathe some new life into the old girl. I got her (Victoria, I named her) my sophomore year of high school and finally stopped driving her not long after I graduated college.

Fond memories in this car. My friend Brian, who had a modded 240sx, decided we should race our cars to see how they stacked up (mine a 3800 v6 and his a KA24E with some adjustments) and I was pretty stoked to beat him by half a car length (we were 16, 17 so it was pretty exciting).

Anyway, enough about mine - Show me yours!

Mine was a '78 Datsun Cherry. With a massive 60hp from a 998cc engine, it needed more than a little coxing to go fast.
But once you got it moving it was very agile, and on it's really skinny tires could be made to walk sideways around corners :runaround: :icon16::icon16:

1989 LeSabre TType....rare and one of a kind. I loved that car.

My first car was a 1937 Dodge Brothers Business Coupe. I bought it while I was in junior high school, restored it as best I could, and drove it through my high school years. My wife to be and I went on our first date in it. I sold it while I was in college, and bought a used 62 Dodge Dart in 1965. Last Summer, wife and I bought us another fat fender car and we're enjoying taking it to shows and cruise-ins.

1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Town Sedan

White 1967 International Harvester 3/4 ton pick up V8, 5 speed. When I climbed in the bed to clean out the junk that came with it (all for $200) my foot went right through the rust. Might have been rusty, but it ran great and witghthe extra low gearing, it was a tank.

The first car I ever drove was either a 1977 Olds Delta 88 Royale or a 1989 Eagle Premier. My family had one of each at the time, although inevitably one or the other was broken down. I even took my driver's test in the Olds, which was longer bumper-to-bumper, than our Dodge Grand Caravan!!!

The car that was my first to own was a 1993 Infiniti G20 named Sophie. I loved that car. She was my first stick shift (5spd manual) and I couldn't even drive her off the lot! Lots of GREAT memories in the car - including the time I beat a late 80s/early 90s 5.0 Mustang off the line from a light - WITH MY DAD IN THE CAR! LOL Thank goodness I could drive in the rain better than the Mustang driver. ;)

My first car was 2002 Chevrolet Impala.. I love that car!

That is a pretty cool first car.

I believe everyone should have something old, solid, slow and difficult to drive for their first car.
Then your forced to learn how to drive properly.

Too true. My car wasn't slow, but it was old (enough) and heavy, which helped me learn how to feel out my car. If people took the time to understand what their cars can and cannot do and why, there would be so many more good drivers out there. Instead, you get people who think they know everything about a car after getting into it once.

I'm glad I'll be the one teaching my son to drive.

I had a good think about the most memorable things I did in it.

When I first got it, I took it down to an open park with a field next to it and went absolutely nuts. Lots of skids and hand brake slides, learned very quickly that I enjoyed good car control.

Then the most memorable thing was driving it home early one morning with a very, very quick average speed.
Over a distance of about 14km of very twisty country road I averaged 120km/h.
Pretty impressive since the car would only do 140km/h flat out, and couldn't do more than about 110km/h up a couple of the hills.

mine was a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe. L67 (supercharged 3.8L). one christmas eve, my dad was playing around on ebay and bid on the car, assuming someone else would soon after. A few hours later we owned a GTP. at that point we didnt even know it was supercharged. We learned that soon after :lol2:. Ive spent wayyyyyyy too many hours working on that car, although i enjoyed every one of them. i loved that with a modest thrust of my foot, the thing would take off, rather quickley. it wasnt a ferrari, by any means, but it was quicker than the most of the cars at my high school. i always loved when people had no idea what the GTP badge meant and tried to beat me at a light:biggrin:. ill forever love that car!

That was my first car, a '62 Mercury Comet, back in '78 when I was 15. I ended up customizing it with '60 Falcon front sheetmetal, some slotted mags and custom white paint. I have pics of me and my dad working on it halfway through th eproject, but none right now if the finished car. I have to see if I can find the old pictures from then (30+ years ago!)

That is pretty cool, especially still having the old photos.

My father taught me how to service and repair my first car, but I never got any photos of it.
