old gas

Lets say a car has been sitting around for two years. Obviously it will have some sputtering issues. It has old gas in it. Is it best to fill the tank up so that the new mixes with old and get it through the engine or should you drop the tank itself and get the old gas out that way? Or what is best. Its a 1990 Nissan 300zx.

Add octane boost, and change the fuel filter.

I would feel better about adding the octane booster as mentioned above and then finishing out the tank as much as you can before adding more fuel. Might as well try to cycle it out of there through some basic driving. Once you get some new fuel in, put some injector cleaner through it and maybe treat it to a nice tank of premium :smile:.

May want to have a look at the timing belt on that Z. The VG30DE is interference. The belt may have dry-rotted some while in storage.
