Hello:

I am new to this site and posting because I am having more problems with my car. I went to get a smog test over a week ago and had the chack engine light repaired after that and the mechanic told me it had to do with the avap so I had to get a replacement gas cap for the car because the gas cap missing and then proceeded to reset the check light. Then the mechanic told me to drive 30 miles and come back. After driving around 120 miles from the last time I came back today for a smog retest and the mechanic told me that since the car was a 2003 chevrolet cavalier and not 2001 or oder I had to have 2 more green light that was currently red at that time. So then the mechanic told me to drive another 30 miles and then retest it. Is this how you fix this? Any help is very much appreciated.

It's not how many miles you drive but how it is driven, That specific way is called a drive cycle. You can have 1 monitor not ready and the vehicle should test; unless you have different laws for your test area. Try a google search for a drive cycle and see what you come up with. If you do the drive cycle a couple of times and the monitors still are not completing you may have something wrong with your car. Your mechanic might have to look at mode 6 data.
