Car customization - external/in factory

I am wondering how cars like Renault Megane GT, Renault Sandero Stepway or BMW M3 are made. They have some modifications compared to serial production "normal" cars. More styling, protective plastic, etc.
Do they make it on assembly line or do they take it somewhere to external manufacturer? I've heard they used to take some of these to different factory.
Any idea?
Thx

G'day, welcome to AF :)
It depends a lot on the manufacturer, and the volume they expect to sell.
Some are made on the product line along with the rest of the models in a range, while others take the car off the production line in various stages of completion, and carry about the rest of the work in a smaller scale factory.
Generally the high volume cars, like the M3 will be made on the same production line as the standard car, while the low volume cars get made on separate lines from a body shell removed from the standard line.
