My dad lost one of the keys to his vehicle. I believe that this key is called a SecuriLock key. Can this key be purchased cheaper from any source other than the dealership? Once a key is obtained, can I program the key myself? Still have one original programmed key. Thank you for your time and consideration.

You need to have 2 keys that are already programmed to program the new one yourself.
You can purchase them from a lot of places online or at a locksmith.

I purchased a key on eBay for $13.95, which included free shipping. The key is brand new and is made by Srattec, which is the original OEM supplier. Found a local locksmith that will cut and program the key for $40. Here's the funny part. Just found the lost set of keys late last night (after my dad had already ordered and paid for a new and very expensive key from Chrysler, as he had the key to his 2007 Grand Voyager on the same key ring) . Now will be able to program the new key myself, although will still have to have it cut, which will only be a nominal fee. I have some great advice for anyone that will be buying a new car in the future, to help save some mula in case this ever happens to you. Make sure that, as part of the purchase of your new vehicle, the dealership includes a 3rd programmed key in the deal. This way, should you ever be unfortunate enough to lose one of your keys, you will be able to program your new key (the one that you had to replace) by yourself. I'm sure that if the manufacturers ever catch on, this option will also disappear. Thanks again for all of your help........PRICELESS!

The folks at ford are funny people and they like to play jokes on their customers. This is why the have an option called a SPARE KEY SWITCH which is programmed into the PATS system.
Enabled—additional keys can be added with the use of the original programmed keys.
Disabled—additional keys cannot be added to the vehicle without using a scan tool.
