Hi guys,

I'm going to start on this huge modelbike:

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%281%29_%28Custom%29~6.JPG

The kit contains a lot of parts, but I expected more as the kit is very big. The parts are all looking very good and all details are the same as the original bike. My dad owned one (but with the big fueltank) in the 70's, so he knows a lot of this bike.

Here are some pics of the parts:

The kit will be build OOB but I only want to change the wheelspokes with real metal spokes. I'll do that with my dad.

I'll paint it black with the white striping decals. I'm also thinking to paint the chrome part on the fueltank in black, but we'll see.

Kris.

Small update:

I started to put the engine together. The fittment was really bad, I had to file, trim and putty almost every big part to fit the engineblock. The molded bolts will be replaced by real bolts when I receive my order from www.rbmotion.com.

Some panellines are rescribed, cause the glue filled them up.

The cilinderheads will be improved and as you can see on the last pic, I replaced the plastic mounting for a aluminium tube. This needs to be filled up with some putty and sand smooth.

Looking forward to this as I have this one, the Police R75/5 and 2 x R90S kits to do!

I was lucky enough to own an R90S when I was a student (with a sidecar, as I had not passed my driving test back then)! Hoping to convert one of the R90S kits to look like my sidecar 'outfit'. Have started messing with one of the engines and also wanted to replace the rear part with tubing...beware though, the tube did step up in diameter slightly where it touched the engine sides on the original aluminium castings. If you wrapped 3-4mm x 0.25mm plastic card around the ends, you'll have it!

What do you think of the kit quality, assuming it's a re-release? IMHO, it's good but there are a lot of sink marks (like the ones you've had to fill on the back of the gearbox already) + the new Tamiya plastic is no where near as good as the older kits - has a softish, hard to sand feel to it?!

I've never liked the kits valve covers either - way off for me. Hoping to cast a new version to use on all my kits.

Good luck with it!:smokin:

Finally a new updated from me.

First I received the bolts from rbmotion.com so i cut off the molded bolts. Then it was time for some primer. I used Zero grey primer for it. Then I painted it Aclad Dull Aluminium. When it was dry I drilled the holes and placed the bolts.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/boutjes_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/boutjes_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/boutjes_%285%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Here are some smalle hexbolts:

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/boutjes_%286%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

And I didn't had enough bolts.... In fact I'm missing just one bolt. So when it will be placed into the framework I'll remove the most not vissible bolt and add it to the visible one :)

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motorblok_%287%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

I also added some small parts and the engine scripts.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motorblok_%288%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motorblok_%289%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/motorblok_%2810%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The framework needed a lot of sanding. Every part has moldlines on 2 sided so I used a lot of sandpaper and a file. When i was happy enough with the result I sprayed some primer. Followed by some Porsche Black. It's now waiting for some clearcoat.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The rearsuspension was a funny part. The instructionmanual from the real bike showed me the exact same parts as tamiya did :) The tube was originally a chrome plated metall one, but I painted it silver. The springs are also chrome but I painted them black and clearcoated it.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/vering_%283%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The frontfork. First I painted the upper part gloss black. The crownplate (or how do I call this thing?) is painted silver. The other parts are brass tubes which won't be see when it's completed so I didn't painted it. The front fork really works after completing.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/vering_%286%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The mudguards and headlight are also painted Porsche black. The fueltank had some problem after the primer so I have to fix that first before I can paint it black also.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/zwart_%28Custom%29.JPG

I hope to add the decals this week and clearcoat all black parts.

Not interesting enough?

Well i got a bit further with this bike.

Firt I finished the frontfork.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame1_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

And finished the rearlink.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%283%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Bad picture of the frame which is clearcoated.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%284%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Also clearcoated the fueltank with 2k clear.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%285%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The mudguards got some white striping and are also clearcoated.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%286%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

And finished the headlight.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%288%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The carburators got a little wash. The intake manifold got some chrome tape and real screws.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/frame_%289%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

And some dryfit teasers.

I made some progress the past days.

First I finished the steering. The most difficult part was to paint a bmw logo on the knob.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/stuur_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Then I finished the frontfork. I polished the front mudguard and glued it in place.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/voorvork_%282%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

Then I mounted the rearlink on the frame. I also placed the rear mudguard. When this was done, I also placed the engine. This was really tight fitted, but I managed to get it right without any damage. :)

Another update guys!

First I added the cilinderheads on the engine. Later I also placed the carbs and tubes but they didn't fitt. I had to use a file and some violence to fitt them right :D

After this I was able to put some cables in place.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/cilinderkoppen_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/cilinderkoppen_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/cilinderkoppen_%284%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Now it was time to do something different. I started on the seat. First I painted the chrome trim on the seat by hand. Man this was hard to do! After that I added some chrome foil around on the trims and I also added the chrome handle. When this was all done I painted it with flat clear. Now the chrome became more like aluminium which is better I think.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/zadel_%281%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/zadel_%282%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

Now on to the exhaust. I already glued them together and leaved it chrome. I never could paint it in chrome like this and this chrome was ideal for the heatstaining I did. I painted it with clear blue and clear orange and some smoke here and there. I really like the outcome.

Now I really need to start on the wheels. Infact I already made a very little start on them. Now I have a solution to respoke them on a easy way (i think......:D)

Very nice job Iceracer, it seems real but..... please don't leave that exhaust green.... :shakehead
I usually paint clear blu, clear violet an clear yellow. If you paint orange over blu it comes out green whic is very unrealistic. This shoul be a pity....

Because the exhausts were just to green, I decided to remove the paint and do it again. This time I used clear blue, clear yellow and a bit of clear red. Looks much better now I think.

Huge update guys:

First I started with the wheels. I used 0.7mm wire for the spokes and silicontube for the nipples. I cutted some sleeves in the wheels and drilled some holes in the center. That was the easiest way I think.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%283%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Than the hardest part.... painting the wheels. First I painted the wheeltrims in black. The center was painted aluminium. I tried to not hit the spokes with paint. After drying I glued the halves together. This was very hard to do so I used a lot of clamps for this job. Unfortanately there is still a little gap between the halves but it was straight glued. I think the wheels are not 100% straight.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%284%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%285%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%286%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Now I could paint the black part with Polished Aluminium with alclad paint. With some thinner I removed the paint from the spokes. After this was done I could fix the tyres on the wheels and add the other wheel parts.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%287%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%288%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/spaken_%2810%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

I'm really happy with the result, it was a hard job for a first time :)

No on to the bike. I added the triangle parts after repainting them in alclad chrome. The original chrome was to shiny.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

On the seat I had to add a decal:

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%283%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Now I could fix the wheels on the frontfork and rearlink. On the rearwheel I had a problem. The exhaust was already placed but it was impossible to fix the wheelnuts. So i had to remove the exhaust again... :D I also added the rearlight and indicators. The rearlight was placed with real hexabolts which are also used on the engine.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%284%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%285%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Also added the hoses and wiring.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%286%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%287%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%289%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The fueltank is also finished. I removed the original chrome and painted it with alclad chrome. I filled up the black stripes and added the BMW logo. And I gave it a drup of clear for the finishing touch :)

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%2810%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%2811%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/afwerking_%2812%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Meanwhile it's finished for 99,9%. I only need to paint the numberplate and place it.
