i have a 2003 cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine, it has 108000 miles. last week the car died and i realized it wasn't getting any fuel so i hit the gas tank with a mallet and its been running ever since. is it possible that maybe it was just stuck or should i change it out?

Prior to the pump not running, did you let the tank run down to almost empty? If so, the pump might have been just pumping air which obviously wouldnt allow you to start it.

That is a bad winding in the pump. It might run forever and never stop on that same position. It has a fault, I would change it.

so i changed it out. was rather easy. the hardest part was getting the fuel filter free from the rusty line. if anyone would like steps just ask
