I have a 96 e-250 that had a axel seal blowout. I need to know if I have to replace the bearing with the seal. Also, need to know what kind of gear oil to use in the rear diff. Thanks for the help and all that ya'll do on the website.

If it is just the seal that went bad then I wouldnt waste the time or money of replacing the axle bearing. The axle bearings would be one of the LAST things that would go bad on a ford vehicle. However, on some ford bearings, the seal IS part of the bearings. If there wasn't any humming noise coming from the bearing...just replace the seal.

Thank you. The seal is seperate from the bearing and the new bearing is $30. There was no humming and the seal busted when I was working on a differnt problem. Any idea on the gear oil.

Not sure on the gear oil, but I always go with "Lucas" additive. That stuff is awesome.
