Painting split rim wheels. (HELP NEEDED)

Im doing a toms supra whereby the inner wheel is white, the out lip silver. At the moment its all the chrome plating.

Happy with removing this but whats the most accurate way of painting these?

Yup, liquid mask is your best bet. I use it all the time to paint stuff like two-tone dashboards in JGTC cars, intricate headlight assembles, and so on.

Spray your wheel white, let it dry, apply the liquid mask over white with a brush, let it dry, paint your silver, voila!

I use the Microscale stuff, and I swear by it. I have limited success with Silly Putty, as I can never seem to get a clean finished line.

I would leave the plating, and just mask the outside and prime the inside white and paint white.

I agree with MidMazer. Use Microscale's Micromask and mask the rim so that the white center can be painted. For these types of situations I've had better success carefully applying Micromask with a sharpened round toothpick instead of a brush. If you mess up you can easily start over by running the rim under warm water and using a stiff paintbrush to remove the mask.

Apply the mask over the edge of the rim onto the outside where the tire would be, also. Once dry it will leave behind a thin blue rubbery coat that can be carefully pealed away. By coating the outside of the rim as well you can peal the mask by grabbing the outside of the rim part intead of somewhere on the face of the rim and therefore not risk damaging the fragile chrome on the rim's face.

I would recommend applying at least three coats to each rim as that way the mask will build enough thickness to peal off as one piece.

Finally, use a spray or airbrush white. Do not brush paint. Brush painting on chrome can leave streaks. You may also want to mask off the rim center as this will be painted another color.
