stallin taxi

I have a 1991 Buick Lesabre that I use in my business as a taxi. Everytime I try to use the 2-way radio the engine stalls. I have tried everthing I know of to correct this problem, replaced the ICM, Coil Pack, Plugs and wires, ECM, alternator, Regrounded everything that I could. I have used this same radio in two other cars that I have used as taxis, and never had a problem. I have tried different two way radios in this car and have the same problem. If anybody has any in fo on this problem please let me know this problem is driving me absolutely crazy.

Maybe the location of the unit itself..where is it mounted?? Sounds like the transmission frequency or amplitude is interfering with the cars ECU operations. Were the other cars older or newer?

one of the cars was a 1990 buick Century, and teh other was a 1988 Buick Park Ave. The radio was mounted in the same place on all three cars.

Still doesn't tell me WHERE it is mounted. I'm trying to determine if its mounted too close to the ECU.........:alien2:

Sorry about that, I was half asleep when I posted that reply. The Radio is mounted on the hump under the dash.

I beleive the ECU is located near the glove-box on those cars or behind it. There are some cars that mount the ECU right by where your radio is located. I Don't beleive the problem is your electrical system. If you hear a big CLICK when you key up and then the car dies , its possible there may be an incorrect connection from the radio to your main fuse box. I have a ton of questions regarding how the radio power is routed. When I had such radios in my cars , I routed a power wire from the radio straight to the battery under the hood , with an inline fuse to protect the radio from the massive amperage. A fuse also acts as a kind of a flow restrictor , limiting voltage thru the size of the element inside.
I would try relocating the radio first , to somewhere totally away from the dash area , possibly even in the back seat. See if that works. And tell me how your power is routed. And another dumb question...Is your sterio system ON when this is happening??

I have tried running the power in the main fuse block, and had the same problem. At this point I have the power running directly to the battery, with an inline fuse in the wire. This problem happens with the stereo on and off. I will try moving the radio and see what happens, I'll let you know.

Good. I was making sure that you weren't possibly robbing power from the ECU. Or overloading some relay shared with the ECU. At this point all I can say is move the radio to a different location in the car. Maybe under the passenger seat , or between the front seat , if there is space for it. I'm thinking that the RFI from the radio is interfering with the ECU , or the ignition module in particular. Does your Buick have the 3.8 V6? If so , its DIS (well , you know that) and I beleive the IGN module is mounted fairly close to the firewall.
Its possible also that the antennae wire is passing too close to something , and interfering with it.
It may also be something as stupid as the radio needes to be retuned. Certain frequencies will interfere with ECU and IGN module operation.

I will try moving the radio and see what happens, can't do it today...raining.. no garage.. I will let you know

I am goig to move the radio tomorrow afternoon, I am finally getting a day off.
