New Car, New System

I am purchasing a 1991 chevy caprice and after fixing the body and interior, I want a nice system. The problem is I know nothing about cars and little about amps and subs. What I want is something with nice bass and little distortion. I have 1k to spend. Any suggestions?

I like Panasonic head units, Alpine are also very good. For amplifiers, go with MTX or Alpine. For subs go with JL audio, Alpine or Audiobahn. These are good companies but they are just my favorites, products vary from reigon to reigon as well. Ask a car audio store, they know what is in stock and could put together a nice package for you. This is just a quick opinion too, just because I didn't mention something, doesn't mean it isn't good. Best idea is to go to the store and have them set up something in your price range. Then post what they want to sell you back here and we can tell you if they are any good.
