Polishing Compounds

Hi all
Been looking for some polishing compound,I was going to try and buy Tamiyas but I can only buy it on Ebay and can't wait 3 or 4 weeks to arrive as there in Hong Kong.

So I looked on Hiroboys website and he has 3 tins course/medium/fine,has anyone used this stuff and is it any good?
Just finished applying TS-44 to my GT-R and it come out ok but there is a slight orange peel to the paint.

Tamiya compounds are great. I use fine and finish grades. Coarse grade seems a little redundant if you use >2000 sand papers. You can also try Micro Mesh polish pads.

The tin compound you mention is a ZERO PAINTS product, but it works fine with Tamiya paint.
In this case, would recommend wet sanding the paint and only use the medium and fine grades to recover the shine.

I hope you will take this in the way it is intended, as I mean no offence. But when I look at your picture I don't think that polishing compounds are the way to go. What I mean is that you can achieve a much better finish than what you have with the paint first, and then go to the polishing compounds after. If I may ask, did you use a primer before the TS-44 was applied and also did you wet sand the primer before you applied the TS-44..?? The surface looks quite dry, especially on the boot lid area. It's maybe that the primer has soaked up a lot of the paint and left that texture to the finish. Also are you applying wet coats of TS-44..?? My advice would be to wet flat the finish that you have and apply some more coats of TS-44 finishing with some wet coats to bring up the finish and the gloss level. You should be able to get a much better finish straight from the can and a pretty high gloss level with the TS paints as they are very user friendly. Then I would finish off with the compounds. I feel you will save a lot of work with the compounds if you follow that route...

I would do the whole polishing technique (wet sanding and rubbing compound). You can use normal car rubbing compound for cars.

Just as a hint. These are plastic test spoons, primed and painted TS-49 Bright Red. Straight from the can with no polishing whatsoever. The reflection is the net curtain at the window. This is where I would be at before I go to the compounds. Just saves a lot of compounding if you get the paint application as good as can be from the can...

Not everyone can master painting from a spray can. And if they do, not in the same amount of time. In any case, I would say they wet sanding with 1000 grit. As far as polishing, I use menzerna. Why pay 10-15 US dollars for tamiya compound when you can get high end compounds for $30 for 32oz bottles. In the end I know we use what we like and can afford :)

Going to get some very fine paper tomorrow and smooth some of it out,I also ordered compound set too so ill finish off with medium and fine.
