Weird AC problem

NM, I figured it out. The compressor runs in all settings except off and vent.In other settings it only runs for a short time. Apparently, this is normal.

My car is a 2000 Ford Taurus SE with a vulcan 3.0L V6 and 120KKM on it. I recently had the R134A topped up at a shop..The system was low. The AC works great now but the compressor seems to run all the time no matter what it's set to ,floor, vent, mix not just AC & max AC.It does not have climate control just basic AC.

Disclaimer: The information provided below is purely speculation and my opinion not "facts"

I have four vehicles, and to my knowledge the compressor clutch does not disengage while in AC mode. The only time I have seen any of them cycle is if it were low on refrigerant, WOT or in defrost mode. to my knowledge they run continuously unless you press the off switch. Now the caveat to this is when I check this the car is stationary and it is rather and their is still heat in the cabin for the system to remove, so I know it will not disengage. Is it possible it is cycling at 60 mph down the freeway, I suppose, but I think you would notice the change in air temperature coming out of the vents when it cycled off. Unless it is winter or just a brisk morning I don't think you can remove all the heat from the cabin air where it's continued operation would be a problem. The heat from the motor itself would also help to insure that the compressor does not freeze (assumption on my part). In short I do not believe that this is something you should be concerned with.

The compressor will cycle when the pressures get to the high limit in the system. This is not a problem.

The original poster's question was not why the compressor remained engaged, but rather why it ran in pretty much all settings of the climate control rather than just when the A/C mode was selected. As he later discovered, this is normal for the Taurus.
