I have a 1998 k2500 with a 5.7....I was sitting at a stop light today and idling and when I looked down the tach was dead...It was working fine up to that point and all other gauges work fine, just no tach.
I checked all of the fuses and they are good....Any ideas??
Thanks

My '98 book shows the tach, speedo & tranny selector lights coming from the TRANS fuse. So if the speedo's working ok it must be good. Both speedo and tach share the same ground. So, it could be either the tach signal from the coil or the tach itself.
Hope this helps, your neighbor in Maybe.

I did replace the coil about 1000 miles ago and replaced the stock coil with a Hypertech coil with a little more juice...Do you think that a hotter coil could have screwed up the tach????....I sure hope not...like I said it worked good for 1000 miles and then stopped...could just be a coincidence I hope...any thoughts

White wire at the coil is the signal to the tach. Recheck the connection.

Should that wire have current to it with the key on ??
Is there any way I could check the circuit with a volt or ohm meter to see if the wiring is the problem or if the tach itself is the problem

Well I got in the pickup a few days ago and started it and low and behold the tach works:confused::confused:I have only driven it about 5 times since the tach stopped working and it is working perfectly...Very strange indeed, don't know why it stopped working but it is wroking fine for now...we'll see what happens next :banghead:
