Hello, Thanks for any input on this problem. The car is a 1993 deville 4.9l luv it! Well I baby this car and now i has left me sitting. The car ran fine with no problems just an occasional check engine light. One day it just wouldnt start, hasnt since. The car cranks and cranks but no attempt to start even with starting fluid. The code originally came up was e12 for no distributor signal. I reset the codes now none come up. Checked for spark none. Replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil, ignition control module. I am getting 12v at the ignition coil from the ignition. I am thinking the pcm, or distr. pickup. The security light goes off like it should so I dont believe its a VATS issue. This year caddy doesnt have a crank sensor from what I have read. Hate seeing the car sit like a junker its to nice for that.

Sounds like the pick up in the dist.

Thank you Maxwedge you have helped me now for 5 years and 4 different cars. I will buy one and try the pickup. It is 25 bucks.

checked out the pickup and all the other components under the dist. cap with a voltmeter and all are reading or pulsing a output. This has to be the Pcm brain right? Even if your just reading this please give an opinion. I have to drive my family around in my sucky work car and the caddy is so much nicer. :smokin:

If the pick up is bad there would be no cranking rpms shown on a scanner, that may be a hint. Yes the Pcm is a possibility( less likely) as well as a broken wire or a bad connection between the ign module and the pcm.

So your saying if the pickup is reading output pulses its on o the wiring or the pcm?

If you are seeing this pulse from the pick up, find that wire in the pcm and check it there as well, and to the icm, both see those pulses.

I am thinking pick-up coil and the wiring harnesses in the distributor that get brittle and crack. Have you cranked it with the cap of to be sure the rotor is spinning? Seen some strange things.

Replaced the pickup coil with no results. On autozone this car seems to have 2. I replaced the one with the circuit board that was 50 bucks. The other one is 30 so I will try it next. Yes the Rotor is rotating, and all the connectors are in good shape. Thanks for the help though. I'm not sure how to remove the metal plate the rotor sits on. Is this plate held on by a snap ring or pressed on?

The metal plate is pressed onto the distributor shaft. To replace the pickup coil you need to remove the distributor. Drive the rollpin out that holds the gear on the shaft. (the dimple on the gear should be on the same side of the shaft as the rotor tip) The car only has one pickup coil. When you pull the shaft out of the distributor it is the round part held on to the distributor with a small ring or a clip. It has 2 wires that plug into the ignition module.

Thanks for the the help pro. Yeah I was wrong I replaced the cam sensor not the pickup. I have replaced everything but the brain and the pickup so I guess its down to a 50\50 draw. I dont mind putting a little money in this beautiful car.

No worries. They do have cam sensors issues quite frequently so consider it preventative maintainence. Unplug the pick-up coil from the ignition module and measure the resistance of the coil. (green and white wires) The spec is 500-1500 ohms. Check each wire for a short to the distributor housing. Sometimes the paper they are wrapped in just rots away and where the windings are soldered to the wires will short to the housing. I would recommend a pick-up coil over an ECM at this point.

Replaced the pickup and she fired right up. Thanks Pro and Max for all the help you really do help make life easier for the rest of us. Cheers
