Head Gasket Blown?

Yesterday as I'm driving my 1995 Eclipse GST, I started to feel a jurking feeling in the acceleration. I checked my oil dip stick to find bubbles. Also the check engine light came on. How do I go about extracting and reading the ECU codes. Also, could my head gasket be blown? Those that know, please reply....thank you so much.

Don't assume its a head gasket yet.

You can get you ECU codes pulled at any Autozone or Napa, they'll have a scanner you can use.

Also,
what do you mean by "bubbles in the oil", if the hg is blow there will be coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant, it looks like greyish sludge. Jerking durring accelerationg could be anything. I would suspect the ignition. Go get you codes pulled and go from there.

The bubbles represent the water getting into my oil. We don't have an autozone here in the Virgin Islands. We do have Mitsubishi Dealers, but if I could pull the codes on my own Then that's the route I would like to take first. Is there a way to read codes on a turbo? Again thanks for your help.

Thank you for your reply, I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. I was wondering if there is a way of reading codes without machines. You know the older vehicles u can use jumper wires and connect to diagnose box. Well is there anything similiar to that feature? Thanks a lot.

If you think you've got water/coolant in your oil, check your oil filler-cap;

If it's 'normal' coloured [I assume you know what colour oil is meant to be] you should be ok.

If there's a creamy-brown residue on it, your head gastket is gone.

You cant read 2G turbo codes without a scanner. And have you done a compression check?

you can check your own ecu codes by putting the key in the ignition and going on off on off on and then count the number of times the engine light blinks and compare it to the codes in the repair manual, like hanes or something

Great!!! This is the method I was looking for, but everyone said it couldn't be done. So all I have to do is turn to on-off-on-off-on and then the codes will blink just like that on the check engine light? I will try that this afternoon after work. The on-off-on-off-on thing only works on non-turbo Eclipses.

i tried it on my non turbo and it didnt work and was told it only works with turbos, so i dont know for sure

it only works on 2G non turbos, and was the light even on?
