Hi Guys

Walked into my local model store & saw this badboy sitting at the top of the stack so being my birthday I got it straight away!

This has to be the Best Aoshima kit ever!!! Its near Fujimi quality!!
Great detail from the box & seems to build up easily, the instructions are a little lacking in detail but otherwise good. I was however disapointed to find that the rear spoiler was molded to the body, so many of the pics Ive seen have the spoiler deployed.
So on to my progress

The Box

Colour is amazing with light on it

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/IMG_0276.jpg

Interior Parts - I wanted to use a different colour to Semi Gloss Black so went for Tamiyas Nato Black, looks quite good with a couple of coats but has a dark green hue to it in strong light, but I like it.

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/IMG_0270.jpg

All parts with Carbon as per 1:1, door inserts have a drepression with AMG logo on 1:1 but thats a little hard to do in plastic

Ash! Great work. When I saw the first pic I thought the car paint wrinkled :runaround: The color looks awesome. I love how on the engine bay piece the paint looks like outer space :grinyes: The interior colors look nice. I also like using nato black. Will follow

Thanks Everyone

Yeah cjsbosox the paint did wrinkle a little, I mustve sprayed it a little heavy & it had a bit of texture to it, hence Ive done a clearcoat to be able to wet sand it

Hey Guys!

Its been awhile since my last update but have managed to get a few things done & also downloaded the Photobucket iPhone app which makes it so easy to upload photos!!

So...
I wet sanded the clearcoat to get a better surface to apply the final clearcoat but ended up sanding through the clearcoat & colour layer in a few little places, so I airbrushed a few light coats of purple over the top & have since clearcoated & the results are amazing!!!

I Love the way this car looks with a Matte finish, but this colour Really needs a glossy clearcoat

Boring old dashboard
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/e739e469.jpg

Brakes - I used the Photoetched set & looks pretty good. But there isnt too much point in adding the centre hub with the "clips" because the plastic part has the detail & looks better!!

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/d7794c18.jpg

The Wheels
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/9db31d09.jpg
The one on the left is finished & the one on the right still has the paint on the spokes. I airbrushed Tamiya Acrylic Semigloss black then used a cotton swap with acrylic thinners t remove paint from the face of the spoke. Looks great!!
Will have some more pics tomorrow!
Thanks

Engine Mounted

This is the Hobby Design PE set that Ive used - Its pretty good, however the rear brakes are the incorrect size & require removing approx 1mm to fit. But there are plently of spares of small parts supplied, which is a huge bonus if you have carpet...

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/SL%20Black/3c3a464e.jpg

Has a protective cover sheet on both sides - remove carefully!!

Still working on finishing off all the small details & the interior
Thanks for looking

This is looking great and the colour is awesome. Gotta get me some Zero paints some time.

With the wheels, did you paint the black over the top of the kit chrome before rubbing to get that result?

That interior looks great! The 3-point seatbelt comes in the kit or did you scratchbuild it?

Only thing that looks weird is the Merc logo on the steering wheel. It looks upside down :/ I mean, one of the three spokes of the logo should be point up, not down. Or maybe I´m wrong wih this particular model.

Marianitem - The PE set came buckles & the clip that it goes into, & i just used my own fabric for the belts.
Yes your right about the steering wheel logo, I just checked my ref pics & it is facing "upwards", I just blindly followed the molded in logo on the steering wheel, guess Aoshima got that wrong. I'll see if I can rip if off!
