96 PA clicks when trying to start

hey all,
my 96 just clicks when I try to start the car. had a bad battery and after jumping several times while working on the car, it finally just started a clicking sound when ever i turn the key. The starter doesn't even try to engage. was wondering if anybody has any ideas, as I am out. thanks

forgot to mention that i put a new battery into the car and when i turn the key to the on position the security light is solid for about ten seconds then goes out, and when i remove the key it blinks for a little bit.

Check that the cables are securely connected to the battery.

they are, everything is connected properly. thinking maybe the starter solenoid is fried. hope not

Have you tried hitting the starter with a hammer?

didn't work. i am trying to replace the solenoid right now. one of the bolts' head is stripped and the other is inaccesible. ARGH!

It is much easier to remove the starter, in order to replace the solenoid.
