As a young man , I liked mowing my lawn ! When finished , I had the great feeling of accomplishment and felt proud that my yard looked so good ! I spent extra time trying to make sure I hadn't missed anything .Now , as an old dude , it has become just another " job " on the list that never seems to end ! I still get that feeling of accomplishment , but it's because I wasn't sure my body would make it through another episode of mowing in the hot ( and humid ) weather !

Shortbus, you need a much larger mower. My ex father in law had 40 acres of grass to cut. He had a deisel Kubota to cut the grass but had bought an bush hog attachment wich mounted to the side and it had its own 5 hp gas motor on it. Still, it took him awhile.

RP - Nice avatar. Just sayin. ;) (Go Cal U!)
Anyhoo, I used to absolutely loathe mowing, because I have a 1/2 acre (I know, not much) but I was hauling around 100' of electrical cord for my PLUG IN ELECTRIC mower for the last 2 years. This year I got me an early birthday present when I received a shiny new self-propelled gas mower. LOOOOOOOVE it!
I still don't like mowing, but it takes not even 1/3 of the time!

Vintage Massey Ferguson 150 with a 5 ft PTO-driven mower makes easy work of my lawn. But it still takes 1 hour to do a thorough job of the 3 acres of lawn... and then I have to weed-whack around the trees.
Yeah, a bigger mower is always helpful. I want one with three 4-ft decks like the parks dept uses.

I know you allready got your new mower and all but did you ever think about an cordless electric? Maybe after this broke ankle of mine heals I can take a picture of my weed wacker and how I got it attached to my mower. I just push/pull on a handle to lower or raise it to so the trimming. It actually works pretty good. Little yankee ingenuity here.

I only used the electric because I had it from when I lived in a townhouse that the landlord didn't maintain the lawn. Having a half-acre, gas is a lot easier than even a cordless electric. Besides, the mower I got has auto-choke and 4 cutting blades! Don't think I'll find that in any electric. :)

Those who have to mow their own lawns hate doing it and those who have no lawn to mow really miss it!

You have 25 acres? Get yourself some cows. Wait is shoveling cow manure better than mowing?

I am graduating up to those... I now have 9 chickens 1 rooster, a kitten, one black lab puppy, a pond full of fish and two stray toads that live next to the hottub. I think I need some goats, a couple of horses and a rattle snake eating monster.
Who knew I moved right into snakeland...

I have 6 acres and mow 4 of them. I used to look forward to mowing as well , but as I'm getting older, I'm not as agile as I was and injuries over the last 25 years or so makes it harder getting on and off my garden tractor. I bought a new Ariens tractor in 1998 with a 60" cutting deck which usually gets the job done in about 3 hours depending on the time of year and how tall I let the grass get . Now that I look back I think maybe I should have bought a commercial mower as they are easier getting on and off. I still would rather mow the lawn than shovel snow , especially after getting 179 inches of it last season.

There's a service called "GoatBusters" in Charlottesville, VA that specializes in tough vegetation problems.
On our 1+ acre, I mowed it with a gas push mower for 2 summers....then the grass started growing 7" a week and I couldn't keep up. John Deere was the solution! If you can't keep up or it's taking too much time, then a mower upgrade is the answer.

... or a DR Field and Brush mower. I bought one a few years back to tame some of the rougher areas on my property and it works great!

I used to love mowing the lawn. We used to have a 1.5 acre area w/ lakefront and I was usually better at keeping the lines clean and straight than my dad did when he would mow (we used a cub cadet riding mower). I don't know why, but for some reason I really enjoy a nicely trimmed lawn (metaphor speculation may now begin on that statement).
