My high fam blower stopped working on AC or heat on my 1996 Jimmy 4x4. Any suggestions what can cause this and how I might fix it?

Thanks for your help.

Typically, the high speed blower motor relay is shot, but check the voltage to it is good.

Relay is at right rear of engine compartment-- follow the purple wire from blower motor back to relay- then tap on relay while ignition is on and blower speed selector switch is on high- if blower comes on- replace relay, (or tear it apart and file down burnt contacts).

This is more than likely a fan speed controller gone bad. Its located in the ac/heater duct housing in the engine compartment. Should be about three to 4 wires going to it. Easy fix.

Where is that? Behind the blower motor? Behind the dash?

My high blower only works in temperatures below 90°; if the AC runs long enough the high will work.

Its usually in the engine compartment, right next to fan blower motor, passenger side. Like I said, its in the housing. The fact that your ac working for a bit mzkes it work syas its cooling the speed controller down.

Actually, the fan control inductors work on speed 1-3. That's in the duct. The high speed fan runs through a relay that is connected through a large round factory connector between the firewall and the VCM.

I tracked my wires and found out the connector was fried inside. I replaced the connector with bullets and now the fan works at every speed, hot or cold.

Not sure what kind of bullets you used.
But.
Best to solder all wiring connectors and make sure all push on connectors are tight.
Lose wire or connector will build up heat and fry itself and other stuff with it.

Thanks for the reply. You were exactly right. I replaced the relay on the firewall and it works great. Thanks again.
