Hello,

i am a DIY mechanic in need of help. the problem seems like it is simple for some one who know more then i do.

i changed out basically the whole ignition system a while ago, including: coils, Timing control module. plugs & Plug wires. even the crank censor that fit on the back of the plate you put the coils and TCM on. IT was running great. Like a champ. dispite the seals needing redone.

Than after a month to oh about 5-8. not sure. the speedometer started acting up. it just wouldnt work. but then it did. and than not. Most of the time not.

i told myself that i would see about it closer to payday.
Well it truned out to be that way for over at lease a month. (I know, I know, but things cost)

So then the timing startes up like it did before. So i took off all the new timing gear. had the coils and TCM tested. they all was good.

I check to codes (OBD1) but nothing, I mean Not even a 12 came up. regetly i got silly and tried turnng the car over with the vain hopes it would be a loose wire. Sad to say the battry died in vain. So Lumina sets in the driveway waiting to be repraired. Please if you have any clue. Or have delt with this issue before please feel free.

Thank you for taking the time to read this long boring thread. :)

Update FYI,

So me and a friend was outside fooling with the car. and we discovered a interesting event. The battery we gaining a charge when the car was Key off Engine off.

Also we had the multimeter connected to the battery and noticed a huge drop in volts. The voltage went from 13.6v- 2.4v. when we cranked the engine on it. I am thinking its has a unwanted ground somewhere. (We just recharged the battery.) Could over charging cause this?

we suspect sabotage due to the car worked fine until an ex neighbor moved next door and ever since then we have been having car trouble. Yes i know how that sounds. but the timing can't be ignored! Along with other factors.

And if it is sabotage. any ideas of where to look?

Thank you... And Blessing

What were you trying to fix by replacing all these parts?

the speedometer started acting up. it just wouldnt work. but then it did. and than not. Most of the time not.
Probably a separate problem. Hard to tell without considerable diagnosis.
Failed speedometer?
Failed wiring?
Failed speed sensor?
Failed ECM.

I check to codes (OBD1) but nothing, I mean Not even a 12 came up.
Popped ECM fuse(s)???
Defective ECM?
Defective SES light? Does the light come on during bulb-test?
Defective wiring?

Well thanks to a guy at one of the auto parts stores. he tested the TCM wrong and i thought it was bad. however after testing it at the other auto parts store who tested it Correctly. it wasnt the TCM. However the coils were bad. and it the crank censor was broken any ways. not sure how it broke though.

And the warning light works.

There's a fuse for it in the regular fusebox.

I was wondering about the ECM too, given your description.
