I figure I need new rear shocks, Im bottoming out when going over speed bumps with 4 people in the car. Are these like a 2 cylinder shock one passage for the load leveler and the other for the shock itself ?

The air lift section of the shock is seperate from the dampening section internally, why ask, they are all one unit, does the rear load level?

Yes the load leveler does run for approx 10 seconds when first stsrted, car rides decent, just seems to be really weak when alot of weight is in the rear of the vehicle. Looking at the max-rides as per theads here. Just was understanding the concept of these shocks.

You don't say how many miles on the car, but I assume if the rear shocks have softened the fronts will need to be replaced with news struts. I put Monroe Sensatrak on my fronts and the MA822 shocks on the rear. Keep an eye out for advertisements for any sales like buy 3 get one free.

152000 kms or 95000 miles, I believe the fronts where replaced by previous owner at 75000 mile mark. I thought he said he did all of them but I maybe incorrect.

How difficult are front struts to do yourself?

I had advantage of supply of tools at neighbor's garage. REquires a longer socket handle for more force. I also had a helper, another neighbor, who is a mechanic used to working on semi tractors and trailers.
If your car has lots of miles, over 150,000 you might want to do quick struts which have the coil spring already installed. Removing the coil spring requires spring compressors. The air gun helped with that because it's a lot of turning.
Getting the inside bushings and the bearing plate figured out for assembly (position and which end up) was a problem. But we got it. The paper insert with the struts and bearing package didn't help enough.
Outline the position of the old struts on the suspension part. Try to position your new one there and you'll be close enough to drive the car to the alignment without problems. My car had a wobble bolt on one of the 4. It didn't have a washer. IF I had marked the wobble bolt that would have been even closer. The wobble bolt had been used after hitting a large pothole on I-75 a couple years earlier.
I saved money buying the parts from Rockauto and Monroe had a buy 3 get one free rebate. The cost of having someone else do the front struts on sale for Monroes might have been worth it.
Quick struts might have been a 50/50 on doing it myself vs. paying a mechanic to do it. I have a local mechanic store who will do things if you bring in your parts.

to test front struts put your knee on bumper and jounce it if it don't stop jouncing at the 3rd jounce you do need front struts.

Is there a sensor on the drivers side wheel well that activates the shock pressure and is this adjustable ?
EDIT: Yes there is and yes it is adjustable, now how and how much ?
