350,000....well, that's kilometers... Anyway, 217,800 miles and still going, I'm going for at least 250,00 miles on my Silverado maybe even 300,000. All stock using nothing but Valvoline MaxLife oil and Fram ThoughGuard filters, doesn't leak anywhere and never have to add one drop of oil between changes. Best truck I ever had, will keep it for another while until GM comes out with a 1500 diesel or something else to compete with the F150 EcoBoost. Nissan might come with a Titan Diesel in 2014....

How durable do you think a twin turbo, 6 cyclinder truck is? I'm thinking its gonna be the new windstar...

I kind of feel the same on buying something new though. I like my truck b/c there are not too many bells and whistles to go bad and i can fix most problems i run into in my driveway.

That is great to hear. I am way behind at 172,000 miles, with a few small leaks and about a quart of oil between oil changes. But, I do tow every so often and have really pushed the truck. I have had the truck for over 6 years now and have been very happy with it. As for the Ecoboost, I believe Ford has at least proven with their videos that it is possible to make a reliably turbocharged engine. It will be interesting to see which direction GM goes to have an answer to the Ecoboost.

The V6 they are putting in the new camaros is over 300hp N/A. I think they are going to replace the 4.3 soon with something direct injected.

I have had my truck for 4.5 yrs. I just rolled 110k and it runs like a champ. The only thing that I am worried about is the front diff bearings going out b/c something is making noise in the front for a few months now.

Don't think I don't work my truck! I've towed 10,000lbs and hauled 1 - 1.5 tons in the bed several times! That's what trucks are made for, I don't need a 3/4 ton truck this 1500 does just fine! I bought the truck with 104k on it 6 years ago.

Just goes to show you how much improved reliability is now, versus 20 0r 30 years ago. Looking at even more recent data and it is easy to see that the American manufacturers have finally caught up to the Japanese, which is a great thing.

Just to prove what I use my truck for, this picture was taken this morning. 35 bags of concrete at 80lbs each + pallet, about 200lbs of tools and supplies on the back seat and myself at 180lbs so that's a total of 3180lbs give or take! I did replace my leaf springs with ones from a 3/4 ton truck several months ago.
I love this truck!

I think that all of the quality across the board dropped around the 03-06 range. I would not buy anything in those years.

That is definitely a good amount of weight there!! How have you kept it from leaking oil? Have you had any gaskets replaced? I use high mileage oil, but still have some oil leaking and I do use about a quart over 3000 miles. Not really something that I am worried about though.

Sincerely,
Matt

Last time I changed my oil (last sunday) I noticed a little sweating at the drain plug so I replaced it, only thing I replaced is the front drive shaft seals other then that nothing. I did install a TransGo Shiftkit and replaced the filter and fluid, that's over 100,000 miles ago.

I believe I have a leaking rear main seal, along with the oil pan gasket. It seems to be more of an issue in the winter time. I will keep it until the proverbial "wheels fall off". :)

Matt
