Hi all,
My mum and sister have recently bought both a 2002 (new shape/Mark 6) Fiesta 1.6 Duratec petrol, and a 2002 Fusion with the same engine. It may be a simple question, but the owner's manuals for both cars are very unclear about the best engine temperature (cold/warm) for topping up the oil. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Kel

I'd just check it whenever works for you. I've never noticed much of a difference in oil level when cold or hot on any of my cars.

The amount of volume difference between hot and cold oil is insignificant. It doesn't matter.

The owner's manual usually tells you to wait 5 minutes after turning the engine off to check the oil level. This isn't to let the oil cool down, it is to let any oil still in the engine to drain back into the pan from gravity.

How much oil was lost inbetween oil change?
It might be ready for a new PCV valve.
