Do you Scrape?

Ok, so while building my frst model, I am finding that removing the paint in the areas where the glue must be applied adds risk to the model parts to be damaged. Also, the scraping sometimes doesn't always leave a nice finish on the edges and they can sometimes be seen.

How should it be done and how can I prevent the damage like small scratches etc.

Do you just apply the paint straight over the paint or do you first remove the paint from those areas?

Hi Wolvy, in answer to your question; I tend to try and make the parts so there is no need for to scrape any paint off for gluing, like making sub assemblies, that way you should be able to get away with scraping paint, and we have all done a bit of scraping and SLIPPED and we have to start over :banghead::banghead::banghead: because of a tiny mistake.

If its not possible to do it this way, then I would suggest using a small piece of abrasive paper to sand away the paint, thus reducing the risk of any slip ups.

tx gp, yh, thats the thoughts I had too. Building the sub assembly first and then spraying it. If the situation allows of course I will try it like that next time.

I find you can often assemble parts using “latex glue” (Copydex in the UK) which can then be pulled apart and peeled off for gluing after the assembly is painted. It’s basically like masking fluid. I’ve done this with, say, chassis parts that need to be all black, but then need to be assembled around suspension parts later in the build...
