Having issues with 2001 ford taurus. My engine light is on and when I start the car and start to give it gas the car will just cut off so ill put it back in park and start it again then it will run just fine. Also my engine light is on I just want to know if that issue is related to the engine light being on. I took it to a mechanic he said it was the egr valve. So he replaced it and said wait 70 miles and it should cut off but its still on!!!! Any solutions or fixes for this problem!?!?!?!

Which engine is it and mileage of vehicle?

You need to find out the exact code number, go to autozone or any parts store that will read the codes for you and post them. Once they have been read and you know the codes have them erase them if they will if not disconnect the negative battery cable for about 1/2 hour and drive see if cel comes back on. You may have not had enough cycles for the light to go off yet.

I would star looking for a different mechanic, he should have erased the code after installation of new egr valve.

Welcome to the forum!

So does it only stall the one time, like first time of the day, then it's fine the rest of the day? Or does it want to stall every time you start the engine?

I agree with tempfixit, we really need to know the vehicle specifics and the exact diagnostic code to determine the likelihood that they are related. I wouldn't be surprised is the code was a P0171 and or P0174 which would more likely point to the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE, or EGR sensor) rather than the EGR valve itself.

i just went through this issue with my 99 taurus. i found that there is a sensor that commonly goes bad on these. the egr position sensor is junk and will need to be replaced multiple times. i replaced the egr valve , position sensor, and another part. It was the position sensor though cause it went off as soon as i installed it. it's like 50 bucks.

Do a Google ''Ford drive cycle''
X's miles of city driving
X's miles of highway driving
You can use a scannner to see if the drive cycle is complete.

That would be the DPFE sensor that you're referring to.
