There has been a lot of work since my last post; most of it has been on details & subassemblies that all needed test fitting prior to assembly.
The dash panel has been detailed & reshaped a little along with the body to fit correctly.

All the lights have been assembled and test fitted. This was a massive amount of work; polishing and sizing the clear resin, white metal parts and modifying the body so that they would fit under the clear acetate lens covers.

I’ve spent hours filling all the dozens of pin holes and bubbles in the surface of the body using light primer coats to highlight the defects. There’s still more work to do!

Hi Tony,
After a light primer coat all the imperfections became obvious to see, I then filled them rubbed the filler back and primed again I will continue to do this until no imperfections are apparent.

Some progress on the doors.
I had to scrap my original design as the pivot points were too far inboard for the door to clear the jam when opened & wouldn’t have allowed the doors to be removed for painting.
I’ve now taken my dremel to the inside of the shell, removed my previous effort, thinned the body down to set the pivot as far out as possible & thinned down the leading edge of the doors.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1966.jpg
I used some plastic tube and hinge material to line up the two pivot points whilst the glue set & removed it later.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1975.jpg
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1976.jpg
After some trial and error with hinge sizes, I made a small jig to allow me to form the hinges consistently and have made further subtle mods as I’ve gone on.
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1968.jpg
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1969.jpg

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk305/fenshurst/IMG_1974.jpg
The thickness of the resin panels aren’t really to scale and consequently neither are the hinges but they are the correct design, & overall I’m happy with the result.

Two updates in one day, at this rate I may have it finished this year!
Just made up two brass door latches and stops; although the model will eventually be displayed open these will stop the doors ‘over shutting’ and are fairly authentic.

Hi Guys,
The body has been painted and I think the colour looks just right.
Prior to painting I made a few mods to the body, I filled in a horizontal slotted vent on the rear end that wasn’t on the car at Le Mans in ’58; I’ve opened up a circular vent behind the rear deck and hinged & thinned down the fuel filler cover.
The panels on the DBR1s were removable and that’s how it will eventually be displayed.
All the parts for this kit are now finished & trial fitted, the fuse box was scratch made to fit under the dash whilst waiting for the lacquer to dry.
The next step will be detailing the body, final assembly & adding the numbers as I want these to be matt.
Cheers,
Lee.

Thanks for the interest Guys.
As you thought Gio, the paint is Zero. It was mixed from what is thought to be the correct code for the period as the cars have changed colours over the years, so many thanks to Steve at Hiroboy.
The lacquer is pre thinned clearcoat and about 10 hours micromesh polishing but I think the finish is more realistic than a wet look.
Cheers,
Lee.
