G2 is the second Phase to the Ontario liscense system, something like 60% of people fail it... and you can't drive on the highway without it.

some people never bother to get it either...

Congrats dude... i'm happy my province does not have that crap though.

Not a heck of a lot :)

Class G1

New drivers of passenger vehicles learn to drive with six important conditions with a G1 licence. A new driver must hold a G1 licence for a minimum of 12 months before attempting the G1 road test. This time can be reduced to eight months if you successfully complete an approved driver education course. Drivers earn more privileges after passing their G1 road test.

=======

As a G1 driver, you are required to:

* maintain a zero blood alcohol level while driving;
* be accompanied by a fully licensed driver, who has at least four years driving experience, and a blood alcohol level of less than .05 per cent, in case he/she needs to take over the wheel;
* ensure the accompanying driver is the only other person in the front seat;
* ensure the number of passengers in the vehicle are limited to the number of working seat belts;
* refrain from driving on Ontario's "400-series" highways or on high speed expressways such as the Queen Elizabeth Way, Don Valley Parkway, Gardiner Expressway, E.C. Row Expressway and the Conestoga Parkway;
* refrain from driving between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

Note: If your accompanying driver is a driving instructor licensed in Ontario, you may drive on any road.

Yea thats pretty much what it is I guess, its just the Canadian name for the United States permit. Sounds more high-tech too ;)

yea .... here in the california we have what is known as 'graduated drivers lisencing'

15 yrs old - apply for your permit, you must complete a driver instructor couse and 1 hr of in car training to use it. While you have your permit you can drive anywhere and whenever but an adult 25 or older must be in the car at all times.

16 yrs old (lisence) - you must have had your permit for 6 months, completed 50 hrs of behind the wheel driving with an adult 25 years of age or older, 10 of which must be at night. You must also complete 5 hrs of driving with a driving school instructor. Once you have your criteria and have gotten your lisence for the first 6 months you cant have anyone under 21 in the car with you unless there is an adult 25 years of age or older also in the car. For the first 12 months you must not drive between 12AM and 5AM without someone 25 or older in the car. (personally broke this to go to prom my junior year)

If you apply for your lisence when you are 18, then there is no bullshit. You take the written test and road test and you are good to go.

md its like permit when your 15 and 9 months have that for 4 months minimum, need to take a drivers ed course for a month with like 36 hours class time or something like that and 6 hours with instructor

then you can get your provisional lisence at 16 and 1 month and cant drive past midnight or before 5 in the morning unless its for school or work then after a certain amount of time without any violations or points you can get your real lisence i think its like 17 and 7 months or...something like that

im glad we dont have that cant ride with a person under 21 bullshyt makes sense and it doesent at the same time

Nah in California you have to get a permit before 18 no if-ands-or buts. All BS. I got mine when I was 15 1/2 when it was allowed back then. [like 3 years ago] Then when I hit 16, the day after I took my test and passed. All the can't drive with passengers doesn't matter until you get pulled over :rolleyes:

HAHA sucks to be ALL of you more like it!!..

in sask here, 15 u get learners license... 6 months with adult whos had their license for a yr...
turn 16 go take a drive with an evaluator..

and then once u have ur license.. u have it. done and done. go do whatever the fuck u want. lol (besides the obvious)

oh.. we do have a 2 yr. license probation tho, meaning, if u get in too many accidents or get too many tickets, then u get a review and might lose it for a month.. but, that never happens.

yeh i took a driving course, which saved me major on insurance! One of the insurance companies quoted me at 5000 per year!!!! I fianlly found a company that will give it to me for 2500 a year, and after 6 months i can switch to TD canada trust insurance for just under 2000. No matter what it still is a lot to pay but what can u do. I know people paying like 50 bucks a year:(

i live in missouri and they just changed the law a couple years back. you cant get your actual driver license until you turn 18, you can only get a permit at 15 1/2. I think they should make mandatory drivers education and have permits until you log a certain number of hours.

there are too many stupid kids and bad drivers driving around with a license just waiting to get into an accident.

and just my opinion, but i think they shouldn't give you your license until you know how to change a tire and atleast check the oil. I see too many stupid kids (most oftentimes teenage girls, but could be males as well) driving around with brand new cars that smoke because they are too stupid to change the oil. Have some common sense.

but yes, i dont think people should be driving that cant drive worth a shit.

WOW.. look like alot of you went through alot of BS when getting ur lisence. I got a farm permit when i was 13. got a permit when i was 16. kept if for 3 months and got a full license at 16 1/2. I guess things are alot less strict when u live in SW kansas
