Jetta troubles.

When im driving in any gear it feels sluggish and like its about to die. And previously i was driving in 5th gear and then it seemed to jump to neutral with the shifter still in the 5th position. Anyone help me?

Also the MIL light flashes, then shut off. The car seems like it has trouble when idling
