Hi and welcome to the forum!
What was the exact code you pulled from the PCM?
You might have a problem with clogged EGR channels. if you step too much on it will it backfire or act like it's running on fumes?
Oscar.

the code was like 542 and when you step on the pedal hard it backfires under the hood not the tail pipe.

The backfire under the hood might be an indicator of clogged EGR channels, you might want to take a look at them using this tech tip:
542 DTC: Fuel pump circuit open: PCM to motor.
Maybe the wiring is corroded between the fuel pump and the PCM causing an erratic operation which at the same time is responsible for the lack of power.
AFAIK the most common place for corrosion is right at the fuel pump, you'll have to lower the fuel tank to inspect the connections at the pump.
