Service Engine Soon light turn on (Montero 2002)

I have a 2002 Montero, since a moment the Service Engine Soon light remain lit, while driving. I tried to make a general maintenance but no way, still lit. Please, someone can help me on this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I will try and revert to you asap...About engine oil, I lose oil every time, therefore I am obliged to add one liter every 2 weeks, I don(t know if it is oil quality. i use quartz 5000 engine oil.

Not yet, I tried to remove the battery connection during a moment then I connect again, the light turn off. But after a moment the light back again and stays lit.

My son has a 2002 Montero. We took it to the local Advance Auto Parts store and they connected an electronic device to it (under the dashboard) to get a reading of error code(s) which indicate the cause of the Service Engine Soon light remaining on. The store does this for free. So, if you have an Advance Auto Parts store in your area, ask them about this service.

One possible cause is a bad oxygen sensor. This is one of the causes that can be identified by Advance Auto Parts with their electronic diagnostic tool.
