I'm thinking donig a swap from a 305 to a 383 in my 1985 caprice classic 2dr. I'm pretty set on putting in a crate 383 engine from summit, called a 383 Blue print engine dressed stroker kit, just wondering if anyone has heard anything on them?

from what I found these engines made/rebuilt are using chinese parts.
some have had problems after several thousand miles with cracked blocks or issue of the internal components like rockers failing.

others have reported no problems. the engines do come with a warrantee ...4,ooo.oo for these engines is a good price ..lately some have payed much less.. perhaps 5.oo/gallon fuel is killing this market..

these engines do use hi octane fuel...

with about 300 hp to the rear wheels it will get you going much faster than the 305 130 hp engine...

400hp is test with engine on the stand not hp at the rear wheels installed in a vehicle..so you loose about 100 hp form there stated HP...

so what transmission rear end and cooling system components have you selected ?

Thanks for the feed back but, thats kind of a big difference either it does work or it doesn't, I guess.

Thats what I was afraid of, because it was such a good deal at $4000. I want to spend $5000 or less on an engine and at least get 330-350hp to the wheels and still keep emissions, any suggestions.

Oh and I'm putting a Th400 tranny from gearstar, 3.42 gears posi, and I been thinking of what radiator I can stuff under the hood.
