Fuel issue could use some thoughts

I have a 90 Honda Civic that belonged to my Mom since NEW. It has 113,000 miles on it. Last summer I developed a fuel issue, like NO FUEL:screwy: coming out the filter. So I thought new filter which I did. & it started & ran. Well a few days & it started acting up again. So I took it to a shop & they said the fuel pump & pick-up screen were in need of being replaced. So I had them do that job. Thing were great for a month or so, when one morning NO START. :banghead: Well, I noticed the check engine light was on & didn't go off. So I researched around & came up with maybe the Main Relay was bad. Remember this car is 21 years old & 113,000 miles. So I took it to a shop out of town that had done work for me over the years & where very good , honest, & reputable. They checked it out & said Yes the Main Relay is bad, & replaced it. The guy that did the work was a Honda mechanic that drives a Honda. So I was off again. Well everything was great for about 2-3 months & we were coming back from Las Vegas. I was pulling a hill 6500' Summit & the Honda stumbled a few times but kept running. We got into the next town 30 miles away & stopped for gas. It wouldn't start. This time I pulled the hose off the filter from the tank & turned on the key cranked it & NO GAS. So I called a buddy 100 miles away to come get us by now it is snowing hard. Well a couple of hours later he arrives & I had tried to start it every so often with no luck. Well he pulls up & I try it & it starts. Well it runs home the 100 miles but stumbled every so often. Got it home NO START. The next morning it starts right up I drive it to my moms house a couple of miles away & it won't start again. So I leave it sit. Well a week or so ago I was at my moms & I went out & it started right up. So we took it for a drive & it went 30 miles I pulled up to visit a friend & it was idling then quit. Towed it back to moms & it sits. NO Check Engine Lite no codes just NO FUEL.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this. I live 600 miles from my mom part time. My wife works in a different State & we have our RV where she works & we own a house where my mom lives. I travel back & forth & would love to get this Honda so I can run the road with it. Our blazer gets 18-20 mpg this Honda gets 30-38 mpg.
Sorry for the long post but I need thoughts & ideas. I keep thinking that the shop that did the pump, either jerry riged something, like wires, or the pump could be defective. :jerking:
THANKS in ADVANCE FOR ANY THOUGHTS.

Thanks for your response. That is the way I'm leaning. The shop that did the pump did some other work for my mom & after they did the pump I found some stuff they did that was mickey moused. I ended up with an over heating problem after they claimed to fix a coolant leak. What they did was cut off a hose end & never bled the coolant system so air was trapped. I was on the road when this showed up in fact in downtown Las Vegas in the summer & it started overheating. I got it to a friends & we opened the system installed a new thermo., found the piece they cut off We bled the system & there has never been another issue. So I know they do crap half a$$ed.

Might also look at ignition module. Both of my 90 hondas had a similar issue. Would start sometimes and other times it wouldn't. Ended up finding out that if I wiggled the ignition a little after trying to start that it would start sometimes. Replaced the ignition module behind the key and they've been running fine since.
