I have a 2001 Rodeo with 168k...check engine light just came on today and only comes on when I accelerate. I ran through a big puddle earlier in the day....could that cause it? Any thoughts?

blinking means it is a miss fire and you should not drive it (or that is what isuzu says).

You need to get the codes read (you can buy a scanner for under 50 bucks). It could be something simple like plugs or more involved like a bad intake manifold gasket (very common, I've had mine replaced 3x in 100k).

Get the codes and report back.

Well....I drove it up to the local Auto Parts store to have them check the codes....light was not on the entire 10 min drive....they checked them....0 codes came back...i guess it might be ok....strange....

Solid you can get away with. Blinking you better pull the codes before you cause a lot of damage.

A flashing CEL indicates a severe misfire. It can be bad enough to dump raw fuel into the exhaust and damage your catalytic converters. Vehicles should not be driven with a flashing CEL.

That has happened twice to me over the years and fortunately each time it was corrected by changing the sparkplugs. I use the Denso double platinum as recommended by this forum. i am averaging about 55-60,000 miles per sparkplug change intervals before the the flashing service light returns. Hopefully it maybe something as simple as changing your plugs and not a more serious issue. Good luck.
