is this normal

Hi I have a knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the bottom end of the engine. I have checked the timing belt tensioner be it does not seem to be making the noise. I pulled the engine and have looked at the bearing and they do not look bad. Two of the rods do have more side to side movement then the others and I think that is the noise but I someone told me that the Torque converter can make a knocking sound is this true? I looked at mine and when you turn it there is no noise but if you move it back and forth there is a clunk sound is this normal?
