One of the best 936-78's I've seen built. Great job.

Great job.
It's really hard to get those old Tamiya 936s to this level of finish and accuracy but the outcome is always worth it :)

Hi
A very good looking Porsche 936 with all the right details. The correct rocket red Martini stripes as far as I can tell. But they look bright like they should! Fine details with the mesh intakes and digged out air intake. Clearly built by an afficionado. But why use the wrong seatbelts then? In those days they used black belts with orange Autoflug patch on the shoulders. They look more boring than the bright red Sabelt I know.

You are correct but the red belts show up better so I did deviate wit some artistic license. Also some pictures I used for reference show the sill areas being white not the black in this pic. I have seen that pic but I could not remember it or find it when I built this.

Very nice 936! I'm beginning one and will use your added detail tips. Two questions, how did you get such a nice result with the old Tamiya decals? Mine look pretty yellowed. I seached for some aftermarket versions but couldn't locate any for the works Martini car.

And, you mention that you replaced the headlights. What did you use?

Thanks.

The decals in this kit were a newer release and were very good quality. The headlights were replaced with reflectors made from plated metal I punched with a solid punch tool which leaves the disk slightly cone shaped. You could look for a product called MV lenses also. I put lenses from my parts box over the reflectors. The door sill panels are black in the picture but I must have used pics from a restored car that showed them in white. You might be able to get decals from Tamiya America in California. Their phone number is 1-800-826-4922

Other quibbly details are that the recognition light appears too large for scale, and the air intake above the driver's head is black in the pic rather than red. Perhaps the difference between the race and restored version again?

Fantastic job nonetheless!

935k3 - Thanks for your reply. I didn't realize that Tamiya re-issued this kit, and it's not on their website any longer. I am going to contact them however, since they've been very helpfull in the past. And thanks for the additonal tips.
Regards, Chuck

If you cannot see the color on the intake than maybe your monitor needs adjustment. There is blue for #6 and red for #5. the light is slightly out of scale but it was about right to the box art. It's good to know we have "experts" around to keep us in line.

Whoa fella, just calm down. You're quite right about the difference between the #5 and 6 cars; I misread the number in the pic posted by fhansen. However, your light is in fact still too big, and I take it 'box art' is not usually what we're aiming for in terms of authenticity. I only mention it in case you hadn't noticed it and might want to remake it.

If you can't take constructive criticism about your work, you might want to reconsider posting it here.

I did say you'd done a fantastic job after all...
