Dies and starts back up

1996 buick lasabre 3.8L 125,000 miles

Only happens when the car is warm. It can happen during idle or cruising. For the first time (today) it didn't stall out but it wouldn't start after coming out of grocery store. I tried to do some diagnostics but it started up before I was able to learn anything. I'm thinking this is a spark problem (It seems to be an abrupt stall) but I have not been able to prove that. I guess it could be fuel to. I don't have to much more info. I dont have a code reader but the engine light (or any indicator) is not on. I'm going to try cleaning up every connection I can find and hope for the best. Anybody have a problem like this on this model car?

loose wire or a relay going bad for the fuel pump or ECM , does it have to sit for a minute or does it start up right away

It used to start right back up but lately it's taking a little longer. Seems there's a couple other people that have had this problem and it was the crank sensor.

usually when the crank sensor goes it just quits and wont restart. Could try the next time it dies , have some one turn key off and on while you check the relays to see if you can feel them clicking on when the key is turned on

The Crank Position Sensor (CKPS) and the Ignition Control Module (ICM) can both be heat sensitive, which can cause sporadic stalling, but may recover when the engine has cooled down somewhat. First thing to check for is spark to the plugs, when the engine does not start!

I would also be happy to look into this further for you. In order to do so, I will need your VIN and current mileage. It may also be helpful to have your name, address, and phone number. Please feel free contact me via private message as well. Thank you in advance.

like hot z 28said crank sensor can give intermitend no start or sets then starts up but it would give a code stored in the computerpull codes and see what you come up with and get back to us my 92 went bad about the same miles some symptoms are if your driveing and felt a little hicup like car missed or shut down and restarted

This sounds like a crank sensor issue... If the PCM misses a pulse you'll end up in a stall situation... It can be intermittent enough that it will start right back up... Or it could be Temp related and the car will start when the engine/Crank sensor cools off...

I'd be looking at the crank sensor...
