95 eclipse auto 4 cylinder. When car is first started it works. When the transmission gets hot it slips out of gear and wont go. If I shut it off and restart it works for about a min then slips out again. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to AF.
If the tranny is slipping out of gear slipping in gear it probably has some internal damage and needs to be rebuilt. Im not to familier with the auto trannys but slipping is never a good sign.
If you put the car in L or 1st and drive slow is there any issues? What about when you shift it to 2nd manually.

Ok I think I gave the wrong impression with the word slip. When I first start the car and its cold the tranny works fine after I get to driving temp I take off tranny is pulling when rmps raise to shift point it goes out like I'm in nuetral. I've tried shifting manually but nothing oonly thing that works is reverse. If I shut the car off and restart it will takeoff again but goes out when it should shift. I've replace the input and output speed sensor and changeded the fluid and filter and it still does the same thing. When I pulled the pan from the tranny it was very clean barely any. Metal shaveings on the magnet and the fluid was not burnt

Could be TCU related from the sound of it. Since the problem goes away when you cycle the key. I have never been a fan of throwing parts at a car to try and solve the problem but in this case it would be cheaper than tearing into the tranny. If that doesn't fix it then it might be an internal issue.

Thanks for the help I've had a few people tell me that so I think ill give it a try. Others have told me maybe the speed sensor

I also suspect the TCU as possibly being the problem in this case. You could probably pick up a used one for about 50-100 dollar range.

Ok so I replaced the tcu and its still doing the same thing. I have a steep driveway and I can pull it up and down all day long and it works but as soon as I get out on the road and pick up speed around 15 and 20 mph it goes out like its in nuetral.I turn the key off and right back on and I can slowly get it back to my house. Now fluid has been changed input output speed sensor and tcu could there be something else going wrong. Thanks for any help

Hmm... I would have thought that would have fixed it. About how many miles are on the car? I wonder if it's possibly the torque converter which will be a bit more work to replace if that's the case...

The car has 132000 miles on it. Reverse always works. Even when my forward gears go out reverse works perfectly
