Differences in Fuel Pumps?

I've been looking for a fuel pump for my 2000 silverado 1500. I ordered one from ebay but it only had one connector on the top of it and the factory had 2 connectors which are both different styles than the one on the new pump. The company says I'm suppose to just cut my factory wiring and hard wire the new pump? I've looked into buying the pump from auto parts stores but they are between 260-300 bucks and I'd really like to use a cheaper alternative. So I was wondering if this is normal to have to re-wire my harness to fit a pump, also what will I be losing by not having the other connector hooked up? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I'm stumped! Thanks:headshake

What engine?
Your best bet is to get a Delphi oem type pump.
Airtex and aftermarket stuff are junk.
Even with a OEM type Delphi some have tom be rewired but the pump comes with the wiring harness if needed.

The one plug pump does not have the EVPA emmisions sensor pressure sensor.
If your truck has the 2 plug pump OEM setup you will need a 2 plug pump.
The rewire kit/plugin is only for the fuel pump and fuel level sending unit.
No way a one plug pump module will work in place of a 2 plug module.

if you have the non evap emissions fuel pump this would mean installing would cause the engine light to come on and you would not pass state emission test..they make two types ..you should have the TCF type 2 connectors...

If your getting rid of this vehicle cheap pump will save YOU some money..If you keep this vehicle NOT !

delphi fuel pump FG0271 should be the correct long life pump...about 250.oo..............

I've forgotten what model exactly but I've heard many people say they got the Walboro fuel pump at half the prices of a OEM fuel pump. From what they say the Walboro pumps are just as good as OEM. And yes, you have to make sure you know what you need before ordering one! Most, if not all 99+ trucks have a 2 plug fuel pump.

Delphi pump is over $300, comes with a 12 months warranty and breaks after 13 months... Got a aftermarket off of Ebay for $50, lasted a lot longer then the Delphi so far...

that makes a difference in the cost. a carter fuel pump for a 2000 silverado 5.3L engine costs about 250.oo... delphi pump costs about 265.oo...the difference is the delphi is a direct fit with no connector fabrication ....... most find this to be the best for a trouble free install and no emisson dtc issues...

carter does make good pumps but with this model vehicle you must mess with the OEM connector for install..........

if the carter fuel pump is not properly cut into the OEM wiring then the emissions dtc can come on ..

these vehicles have two fuel pumps used. one is the emissions pump, the other is no emissions so if you have the emissions type which most do in the US ,,,,you may find problems with the wiring of it ,,,if you are not up on how to properly wire it to the vehicles wiring.

for the cost diff why screw around ..?

Well, I hate to admit it but my "cheapy" fuel pump quit yesterday.... Had to break down and got the $329 Delphi pump anyway.... I want this truck to last another two years or so, by then it'll be at 300,000 miles. I'm just hoping that by then Chevy will have either a 1500 diesel or a competitor to the Ford EcoBoost, I love the looks of the Tundra or the availability of a Titan with a crewcab and a 7' bed but would prefer to stick with Chevy as my current Silverado is the most reliable vehicle I ever had.

I thought your cost was high. I just called the part store to check on cost and availability . down the street from my house.. 280.oo cost and this is the DELPHI fg 0053 which is the complete assy with the emissions sensor etc...

That was the price at my local NAPA, I got it for $257 because I took my friend who gets big discounts at NAPA.

But now it will start right up, don't have to turn the key and wait for 2 seconds for the pressure to build up anymore, and also...me SES light went out, this has been on for 8 months or so (O2 sensor).

that price you paid is what you can get it for in most stores. the 280.oo is with no price discount....that was VIP auto store near me..

you should check the fuel pressures with new,, then you have a good reference for next time you think its going bad..also with all those miles the pump relay should be changed.. good luck..
