When in reverse there is a high pitch squeek

Hello everybody.

I am new to this site and am hoping to find some help with a few issues about a few vehicles i have.

I myself own a 95 suburban but this question is about a 98 jimmy my girlfriend just bought.

So on the test drive when entering reverse it was perfectly fine. It went to go get a safety and it needed new rear rotors and pads. Everything seems fine but when we got it home when going into reverse it was squeeling like a banshee.

My father and i agree that its obviously somthing to do with the brakes. We also both agree it might have somthing to do with the backing plate because his 2000 suburban had the same issue when the brakes were done.

I have read that alot of people seem to think its the U joint but i find that hard to believe if its fine going forward and was fine yesterday.

Is there an adjuster or anything for the rear breaks that might be causing this noise?

Any help would be much appreciated and i look forward to talking with you all.

Yea thats what most are saying. But the fact it was fine right before they did the rear brakes means there is like a 97% chance its got to be them right.

If you want help on it.
Instead of the old pass the buck to the last person that worked on it.

Give us a better description and details of problem.
Like does it do it when the brake are applied or with brake held on and then put in reverse?
Or when backing up with no brake on or backing up brake on?
Can you hear it when in reverse and backing up and then puttiing it in drive and moving forward?

Can you feel any slack in U joints?
Are any caps hot to the touch after driving it?

It only does it in reverse, you do not need to apply the brakes to hear it but it will still make the noise with the brakes applied. When in drive it does not do it at all.

There doesn't seem to be any slack in the U joints.

My girlfriend said she started it up and backed it up a few feet into my parking space yesterday morning and it made no noise. So today i am going to take it for a little drive again and see if it does it, i wonder if its when it heats up a bit that it will start?

Apperently the garage said somthing to her about if theres a problem with it to take it back and they will re adjust somthing. But of course she doesn't remember anything they said or what it was about haha. So when they open tommorow i will give them a shout, its hopefuly a free fix.
