2000 Expedition Trans question.

hi all,
i have a 2000 expedition with the 5.4 4r100 4x4. the problem that i am having is when i come to a stop ,from any speed above 35, it clunks around 10 to 15 mph. if i drive below 35 and come to a stop it wont clunk. mechanic told me that it was because it was just shifting to first because of the low speed. this problem started only about a week ago. any info would be great. thanks.
